Alcohol In Pregnancy

We believe that there is no safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy and we recommend that pregnant women do not consume any alcohol.

Smoking

Cannabis (Marijuana) use in Pregnancy

Some women choose to use cannabis (marijuana) while pregnant or breastfeeding. The harms of using cannabis in pregnancy are not definitive, but some research shows that use in pregnancy may lead to an increase in risk of having a low birth weight baby, increased risk of NICU admission, increased risk of preterm birth, as well as cognitive and developmental concerns in exposed children and youth. These effects are likely worse when cannabis is used along with tobacco or other substances.

We know that cannabis does cross into the breastmilk. The potential effects on the baby of using cannabis while breastfeeding are largely unknown.

The resources below are included here to provide you with some general information with respect to the possible harms of using cannabis in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. We encourage you to discuss your use any substance with your health care provider. We are here to support you in any way we can!
